Chute des cinq cheminées

THE END OF AN ERA

On Saturday the 25th of April 1998 had the long awaited moment finally arrived. The five chimneys of the Power Plant of Groningen were going to be brought down.

Your fearless director went himself to Groningen, using a passage he discovered together with his dear friend, the professor Loderer, on the island of Yliaster. This passage is not yet very well known although its results are impressive.

This story is showing you, dear readers, the possibilities of this passage we discovered for you and that Stanislas Sainclair refused to reveal in the regretted 'Echo of the Cities'.

It will not surprise you that we, in 'The Light', show the naked facts using the objectivity of photography.

Here is my story about a seemingly simple work: the demolition of a few chimneys. But are the people from the other world aware of what has actually been demolished ?

de Hunze centrale

It was 8:45 sharp when the demolition company pressed the button and had fifty kilos of dynamite blow up. The first two chimneys seemed to stay in balance a few seconds but they finally went down. The three other chimneys fell down more cleanly after a strong explosion. The Authorities declared that 50,000 people attended the destruction of the reference point of Groningen

DOMODROME?

What is going to happen to the freed space is not very clear yet. It seems that the land is going to be used by new companies and that a big power station is going to provide the needed power. Rumors are spreading that the estate company Le Vent wants to use that space to create a "DomoDrome".

NO INCIDENT

The Authorities had placed forty agents on Saturday morning to avoid any problem. According to the Authorities, everything went without any noticeable incident. The first aid service had to be involved only once. It was a young woman who had a malaise because she woke up early, hurried to the place and did not eat anything. "The incident happened right after the explosion, so I think she has been shocked", said a spokesman of the Authorities.

The crowd could attend from two big places at a distance of fifty meters. Some boat owners tried to get nearer by the Winschoterdiep, but it failed thanks to a police action. The traffic which had been interrupted during the demolition of the chimneys was back to normal twenty minutes after the explosion. (source: GIC)

THE WALL OF BERLIN

The surveillance of the land of the Hunze Station intensified when some souvenir hunters climbed the fence to get hold of pieces of the demolished chimneys. A spokesman said that there was a rumor according to which Epon would sell the debris. Epon spokesman, Marten Hellendoord: "I also heard that we would build some kind of wall of Berlin. This kind of story is going to appear automatically. Also, the selling of debris at five gulden a piece came from a joke. One of the members of the demolition company told it to one of the spectators.'

Those interested have to realize it. "We do not have any intentions in that direction. The wreckage is going to be recycled and reused.", according to Hellendoorn. (source: GIC)

But did the people of that world really know what happened ? Did anybody see the man with the bowler ? Did the ones who did see him thought it was a joke by some association ?

Nothing is farther from the truth ! If only they could have read the books from Schuiten and Peeters. I realized that even the Authorities neglected to read them.

That is why we, in 'The Light', want to show, in that world also, the truth using the beauty of the photography.
